Rolled Oats · Ready-to-Use Format
Jumbo / Extra Thick
0.8–1.0mm · 8–12 min cook
Maximum flake integrity. Used in premium muesli, artisanal granola, and traditional porridge formats. Holds shape through baking and mixing.
About Rolled Oats
Steam-conditioned, mechanically rolled oat groats — the highest-volume oat format in global food manufacturing. Steam conditioning softens cellular structure before precision steel rollers flatten each groat into a flake. Flake thickness is the primary variable: it controls hydration rate, cook time, texture profile, and consequently, the application range. Avryll supplies rolled oats in four configurable thickness grades, each covering a distinct segment of the market.
Processing Method
KDHO groats are steam-conditioned at defined temperature and duration to soften the grain structure without cooking. They are then passed through a roller pair at a controlled gap setting that determines the finished flake thickness. Steaming time and roller pressure are adjusted per variant specification. The process is continuous, and each batch is documented against the approved thickness and moisture specification.
Key Benefits
Ready-to-Use at Origin
Finished format — no in-house rolling, steaming, or further processing required at destination. Directly integrates into manufacturing.
Configurable at Source
Thickness specification is locked in at origin. Buyers define the hydration, texture, and cook profile without investing in rolling infrastructure.
Consistent Batch Performance
Steam time and roller gap are documented per batch. Hydration and texture performance is reproducible across production runs.
Widest Application Range
From artisanal granola (jumbo) through to instant beverage powders (ultra-thin) — rolled oats cover the broadest formulation range of any oat format.
Characteristics
visual
Flat oval flakes, ivory to pale gold; size scales with thickness grade
flavor
Mild, clean, characteristic oat; flavour intensity increases with thickness
texture
Pliable; increasingly soft and fast-absorbing as thickness decreases

The Science
Behind the Grain
Oats are one of the most nutritionally dense cereal grains commercially available. The figures below are USDA reference values for commercial Avena sativa fractions — whole groats, oat bran, and hull-derived fibre — across key nutrient parameters. Actual composition varies by variety, growing region, season, and processing method.
β-Glucan (Soluble Fibre)
Key ClaimThe most nutritionally significant component of the oat grain. A soluble dietary fibre found predominantly in the aleurone layer and endosperm cell walls. Clinically demonstrated to reduce LDL cholesterol, improve glycaemic response, and support gut health. Oat bran delivers ≥ 5.5% β-glucan; high-concentrate bran reaches ≥ 7.0%.
Total Protein
Higher protein content than most cereal grains. Globulin proteins dominate the oat protein fraction at 70–80%. Contains all essential amino acids, with lysine content superior to wheat and maize. Oat bran delivers ≥ 17.3g per 100g.
Total Carbohydrate
Starch represents approximately 60% of dry weight, concentrated in the endosperm. Mixed-linkage β-glucan contributes to the fibre fraction. Total dietary fibre 10.1g per 100g for groats; oat bran reaches 16g per 100g. Oats have a lower glycaemic index than most other grain staples.
Total Fat
Higher fat content than most cereals. Concentrated in the germ and endosperm. Contains beneficial unsaturated fatty acids and plant sterols. Lipase deactivation (KDHO) is essential to prevent oxidative rancidity during storage and export.
Energy
Oat groats: 379 kcal / 100g. Oat bran: 246 kcal / 100g. Oat fibre (hull-derived): 24 kcal / 100g — near-zero caloric contribution, with 85.26% total dietary fibre by dry weight. Values reflect USDA nutritional database analysis for commercial oat fractions.
Minerals & Micronutrients
Meaningful source of manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, iron, and zinc. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) and B5 (pantothenic acid) are notable contributors. Phytate concentration in bran layers affects mineral bioavailability in unprocessed formats.
Approved Regulatory Health Claims
"Oat beta-glucan contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels."
Requirement: Daily intake of 3g β-glucan
"Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include soluble fibre from oat bran may reduce the risk of heart disease."
Requirement: 0.75g β-glucan per serving
"A diet rich in whole grain foods, vegetables, and fruit with little saturated and trans fat may reduce the risk of heart disease."
Requirement: Per serving fibre contribution
Per-100g values are reference figures derived from USDA nutritional data for commercial Avena sativa fractions and are provided as indicative benchmarks only. Actual values vary by growing season, region, variety, and processing method. Final nutritional composition must be confirmed by laboratory analysis on each specific batch. Regulatory health claims are subject to the jurisdiction and label requirements of the importing country. This information does not constitute nutritional or medical advice.
